Wool against a mountain wind.

Weaving, winter and the quiet precision of a fine shawl.

Himachal Pradesh

First passage

I begin Himachal Pradesh with kullu wool. It is a place to start looking at the labour, landscape, memory and changing present that gather around a single thread. A real portrait needs many voices and many return visits. This first passage simply leaves the door open.

This is a first doorway, not a total account of a place. As the archive grows, I will shape these stories with local knowledge, review and full credit to the people in them.

On the road here, 2027 to 2029

Roof of the World, 28 Jun to 7 Aug 2027

Four ways to meet a place.

01

Food

Siddu, lentils and mountain kitchens make the cold feel less final.

02

Festival

Kullu Dussehra gathers music, processions and local deities from across the valley.

03

Flora & fauna

Deodar forests and high slopes are not a backdrop. They are habitat.

04

Fashion & craft

Kullu shawls and caps carry regional signatures in weave and colour.

Sign-ups open in January 2027, before I leave. A quiet note from me, now and then. No noise.
