The mountain keeps its own calendar.

Village rhythms, distance and the patience of weather.

Arunachal Pradesh

First passage

I begin Arunachal Pradesh with highland seasons. It is a place to start looking at the labour, landscape, memory and changing present that gather around a single thread. A real portrait needs many voices and many return visits. This first passage simply leaves the door open.

This is a first doorway, not a total account of a place. As the archive grows, I will shape these stories with local knowledge, review and full credit to the people in them.

Four ways to meet a place.

01

Food

Warm broths, smoked flavours and rice carry comfort through cooler air.

02

Festival

Festival calendars here are community-specific, and I am letting local hosts tell me what is being marked and how I might join.

03

Flora & fauna

Cloud forests, rivers and high valleys make patient looking more rewarding than a rush between viewpoints.

04

Fashion & craft

Woven shawls and ornaments carry distinctive local languages of colour and form.

Sign-ups open in January 2027, before I leave. A quiet note from me, now and then. No noise.
