Morning begins in a tea leaf.

The hands, weather and long green rows behind the cup.

Assam

First passage

I begin Assam with tea and rain. It is a place to start looking at the labour, landscape, memory and changing present that gather around a single thread. A real portrait needs many voices and many return visits. This first passage simply leaves the door open.

This is a first doorway, not a total account of a place. As the archive grows, I will shape these stories with local knowledge, review and full credit to the people in them.

On the road here, 2027 to 2029

Northeast Frontier, 4 Nov to 12 Dec 2029

Four ways to meet a place.

01

Food

Khar, herbs, rice and tea make a kitchen shaped by river and rain.

02

Festival

Bihu arrives in different seasonal forms, with music, dance and a strong sense of renewal.

03

Flora & fauna

Kaziranga and the Brahmaputra floodplains remind visitors that a landscape has its own tempo.

04

Fashion & craft

The mekhela sador is a graceful study in drape, weave and occasion.
