Cloth as archive.

Pattern, makers and the meanings carried from one generation to another.

Nagaland

First passage

I begin Nagaland with textile archives. It is a place to start looking at the labour, landscape, memory and changing present that gather around a single thread. A real portrait needs many voices and many return visits. This first passage simply leaves the door open.

This is a first doorway, not a total account of a place. As the archive grows, I will shape these stories with local knowledge, review and full credit to the people in them.

On the road here, 2027 to 2029

Northeast Frontier, 4 Nov to 12 Dec 2029

Four ways to meet a place.

01

Food

Smoked meats, greens and fermented notes make food a direct route into place.

02

Festival

The Hornbill Festival is a gateway, not a substitute for the many communities behind it.

03

Flora & fauna

Forest birds and mountain habitats thrive in the quiet of the hills.

04

Fashion & craft

Shawls and adornment carry meanings of clan, status and story that go far beyond costume.

A note from me when there is something good to share: a fresh story, a useful route, or a voice worth hearing.

Sign-ups open in January 2027, before I leave. A quiet note from me, now and then. No noise.
